ChatGPT for Mac is now available to all

Mac users can now easily access ChatGPT on their computers. OpenAI announced that its popular AI chatbot is now available to all macOS users. The app was first revealed before Apple's WWDC 2024 event, where collaborations between OpenAI's chatbot and Apple's operating systems for iPhone, iPad, and Mac were announced.

On the Mac platform, users can quickly launch ChatGPT by using the keyboard shortcut Option + Space after installing the new ChatGPT app.

This feature will be familiar to macOS users who already use keyboard shortcuts like Command + Space to access Spotlight Search. With ChatGPT, they can now access a wealth of knowledge with just a single button press. Once launched, ChatGPT displays as a chat interface overlaying the screen.

OpenAI also launched GPT-4o, its advanced generative AI model, alongside the macOS app. GPT-4o can handle text, speech, and video due to its omni-modal capabilities. ChatGPT's desktop app is available to both free and paid users, allowing for easy access via a keyboard shortcut and enabling users to discuss screenshots, upload files, and search through past conversations.

Although originally released to Plus subscribers, the app is now accessible to all Mac users, as announced on the X platform. OpenAI's integration with Apple extends beyond Mac, as Apple customers will soon have access to ChatGPT on their iPhones and iPads, including through Siri and Writing Tools. These integrations are powered by GPT-4o and are set to launch with Apple's newest operating systems later this year.
